Lego Batman 3: Beyond Gotham, which was released on November 11 for Xbox One, Xbox 360, PS4, PS3, Wii U, 3DS, Microsoft Windows, iOS, and Apple OS X, blows away all of the Lego games that have come before it (yes, including Lego Batman 2: DC Super Heroes!) The game follows Batman and his Justice League friends as they team up with the Legion of Doom to thwart Brainiac’s plan to shrink the whole planet Earth and add it to his collection of cities.
The game builds excellently on everything that TT Games has done with the Lego series thus far, incorporating powers old and new alike to give players the feeling of truly experiencing their favorite DC characters– over 150 of them! Particularly fun are new additions like the VR Challenges (a highlight of the game for me, where you enter a Tron-like computer world for various platforming challenges to hone your skills and unlock new characters) and the vast, multi-location hub world. That hub world, larger and more varied than any previous Lego hub, consists of not only the Justice League Watchtower, the Batcave, the Hall of Justice, and the Hall of Doom, but also the moon and the seven Lantern homeworlds– all available for players to free roam and take on puzzles, quests, and races in.
The variety of different elements present in Lego Batman 3: Beyond Gotham is undoubtedly the game’s strongest point. Whether you’re looking for top-notch racing on Oa (don’t miss it– the driving’s incredible!), homages to classic games like Snake and Galaga-esque spaceship shooters, clever nods to Batman and DC lore, almost every DC Comics character (and some creators!) under the sun, the opportunity to explore famous comic book locations, and even saving Adam West (yes, the Adam West) from sure peril– Lego Batman 3: Beyond Gotham is your go-to game!
And on top of all the great stuff that comes standard in the game, Lego Batman 3: Beyond Gotham also has a bunch of great DLC featuring characters, vehicles, and levels from popular DC titles like Man of Steel, The Dark Knight, and Arrow! (and more to come!) We’ll be covering the Season Pass (which includes all six Lego Batman 3 DLC packs) separately at a later time, but for now you should know that the fun definitely doesn’t end when you finish the game!
Lego Batman 3: Beyond Gotham is hands down the best video gaming experience available for fans of Batman, DC Comics, and Lego games alike (at least, until Lego Batman 4…)
