Gotham City Impostors, available for download on the Xbox Live Arcade, Playstation Network, and Steam, is a frantic 6-on-6 multiplayer shooter that takes a madcap, Looney Tunes-esque glance at what happens in Gotham when Batman is occupied with other matters. The game allows players to choose between two factions warring for control of Gotham in a variety of modes, from standard team deathmatch and command posts to a capture the flag-style Psych Warfare mode and Bounty Hunter mode, which focuses on collecting tokens dropped when characters die.

Characters in Gotham City Impostors are quite customizable, allowing players to change details about the weapons, clothing, and size of their in-game avatar in addition to choosing to play as a member of either the Bats (amateur vigilantes inspired by Batman) or the Jokerz (a villainous gang modeled after the Joker.) The game also features a variety of outlandish weapons that add to the cartoonish feel, as players can equip their character with rollerskates, explosives, grappling hooks, and more.
Gotham City Impostors is certainly a non-traditional installment in the legacy of Batman video games, but it nonetheless offers a fun and easy to pick up romp through Gotham from an often-unseen perspective. Does it fit in with the general Batman lore? Not so much (though Detective Comics #867-870 tried to angle the game into canon). Is it a load of fun anyway? You bet.
